Biomaterials
In the field of life science the possibility of imaging
molecular ions is of importance.
The example shows a SIMS image of a placenta cell prepared
on a silicon wafer.
The separation of the amino acid serine and the lecithin
into different areas is clearly indicated by the overlay
image on the right.
The sodium originates from the solution out of which the
cell was prepared.
